He walks away with a knot in his stomach like he's eaten too much cheezy bread, heart hammering, palms sweaty, this amazing lightness in his chest that he hasn't felt since ... ever. All in all, it's a typical Friday night, and he feels good about it.
Until he shuts his door.
Hey, you know what's super douchy? Kissing someone you share an apartment with and then walking away. Way to go, Nick Miller. Because Jess is exactly like law school, right? Things get weird and you walk away. ARGH, WHAT THE HELL, YOU IDIOT. OH MY GOD.
He tosses and turns all night, rehashing everything, cycling through the 5 stages of grief, which he's pretty sure are denial, anger, being a flaming retard, hating yourself, and realizing you can totally fix this. You can totally fix this, Nick. Just get out there, and whatever you do, don't moonwalk away from her.
Well, snap.
Later that morning, Nick's feeling pretty good about avoiding Jess and Sam completely until the latter leaves the apartment. Also, he made a totally righteous card castle out of stale cheeze-its in his room, so two birds, one stone! Pretty much as long as he can keep avoiding her, nothing bad ever happened. Jess' lips are like Schrodinger's Cat.
That made more sense in his head.
Until he shuts his door.
